Remember, the TOEFL is your test on English skills, confirming that you are ready to enter a foreign country to study. What is the TOEFL Exam?

The TOEFL iBT is aimed for students who intend to study abroad. The test measures abilities to use all four language skills-reader, listener, speaker, and writer-for success in the classroom. This way, universities in English-speaking countries like the US, UK, Canada, or Australia can be assured that students will be able to follow lectures, participate in discussions in class, understand their textbooks, and write assignments appropriately. Unlock a wider range of educational opportunities by proving your English skills through the TOEFL exam. The TOEFL test assesses all the important English skills you can ever need within an academic context: reading and listening comprehension, spoken English, and writing skills. You will be given the challenge of reading complicated passages culled from textbooks and journals, listen attentively to lectures and class discussions, clearly express thoughts in spoken English, and write provocative essays that prove your analytical and writing capacities. These scores will qualify you for scholarships while going abroad and can even increase the chances of a visa for overseas jobs. The test is usually computer-based and costs ₹ 16,900 for Indian students.

What is the Full Form of TOEFL

The TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. It’s a standardized test that assesses the English proficiency of non-native speakers, especially those intending to study at foreign universities where English is predominantly used as the language of instruction. The TOEFL measures your skills in four primary fields: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

Types of TOEFL Exam

There used to be two types of the TOEFL test-the traditional version or PBT and the newer iBT. For many students, however, the Internet-Based Test is now the more popular format. Though the PBT is still delivered in some locations across the globe, internet access increases more by the day, and it’s not used as much these days. The iBT is the preferred format, however. It has several advantages over the PBT. For example, the iBT test july have tougher listening and speaking exercises, such as listening to lectures or conversations and responding accordingly. Furthermore, test centers july give more testing dates during the year, giving it more flexibility in terms of scheduling dates. Lastly, the result of the iBT test is often faster compared to the PBT test in most cases. TOEFL exam

What is TOEFL iBT?

The most common version of the TOEFL exam is delivered for very good reasons! You will be able to take your test on a computer in a test centre, where all of the four key English skills will be assessed within a simulated university environment. Reading passages are presented similar to those found in textbooks or academic journals. The listening section will involve listening to lectures, conversations, and talks on various subjects, exactly as in a university class. In speaking, your own ability to express yourself clearly and coherently about academic matters will be put under test-for instance, in answering a question raised about a reading passage or in stating your views on some topic. The writing test is to check your paper-based essay writing skills for coherent and well-structured essays and also to analyze information or express your views about a specific topic. It’s a Holistic test to show the universities all over the world how fluent you can be with English use for academic purposes, which is imperative if you would like to make good grades in universities where it’s the main used language for teaching.

What is the TOEFL Test on Paper?

This is the older version of the TOEFL and is becoming less common since more and more locations around the world continue gaining access to reliable internet. The TOEFL PBT is a paper-and-pencil test taken in a testing center. While it covers the same four skills of English – reading, listening, speaking, and writing – it is structured and worded differently from the TOEFL iBT. In reading PBT, for instance, you will have to read passages on paper while you answer the multiple-choice questions on paper as well. For the listening section, you will listen to cassettes and answer more multiple-choice questions on paper. The speaking section of PBT is much the same as the previous ones. You will answer questions on your microphone, and your answers will be recorded on cassettes. These recordings are sent on to ETS raters who will grade your speaking proficiency. Lastly, the writing section of the PBT requires you to hand-write your essays on lined paper. While the TOEFL PBT is still accepted by some colleges, for most schools, the TOEFL iBT is the preferred version. The iBT provides a more modern test-taking experience that can be said to somewhat reflect the application of the English language in an academic setting in the present times. Besides, results for iBT tests are usually released faster compared to that of PBT.

Scores in the 100-110 range are often needed at the top universities, whereas others settle for scores in the 80-90 range. The best way to find out is to check the specific requirements listed on the program’s webpage of the university in question. IELTS is a test that students take all around the globe to prove their English competence for admission, a job, or any other reason (related with English language comprehension). IELTS is required for entrance to training or academic programs in countries like Study in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Furthermore, IELTS is accepted by over 3000 universities in the United States and other institutions across the world.

IELTS exam is divided into four sections: Speaking, Reading, Writing, and Listening. The score band is between 0-9, and the final score is evaluated after considering all four sections. This article will briefly discuss the techniques, tips, and tricks with which candidates can finish the speaking section effectively and efficiently. But before that, let’s understand the basic structure of the IELTS speaking test.

The IELTS Speaking Test Structure

The primary focus of the first section is to evaluate your English-speaking proficiency. There are three parts in the speaking section, each of 5 minutes duration, making the overall section 15 minutes in duration. The speaking section of IELTS remains similar for both IELTS General and IELTS Academics tests, i.e., you will have to express your opinions and thoughts about the given topic by speaking English for each part. One minute will be given before each question to the candidate to prepare.

Part 1

Questions for an informal interview about yourself, your family, your job, studies, or your interests.

Part 2

A subject card with three things to discuss will be handed to you. You will have one minute to prepare speaking points and two to three minutes to talk constantly, covering all aspects of the assignment.

Part 3

You have a more in-depth conversation about the subject. In Part 2, the examiner will ask you more questions on the topic.

The overall speaking section can be challenging for many candidates, especially for the people belonging to non-English speaking countries. However, using the following way, you can improve your speaking section score.

1. The biggest mistake people make in the speaking section is of breaking the sentence with the sound of umm, hmm, etc. This can drastically decrease your score since they want candidates to effectively and clearly communicate in English without hesitation. You must avoid making such sounds, taking pauses between the speaking, and reduce all the things which break the continuity of the speaking part. However, speaking in a good flow without any break in between can be challenging for the students, and it is for that reason they are required to practice it. With a good amount of practice, you can improve your speaking flow.

2. Grammar is the backbone of the English language, and no university will give scholarship or even admission to the student who cannot speak with correct grammar. Wrong grammar can leave a big negative impact on your IELTS score, and it is for that reason, it is crucial to keep in mind that wrong grammar does not become a problem in the speaking section. While taking the test, bear in mind that you will be graded on how well you use paraphrase as well as your use of tense. As a result, it’s critical to use them appropriately.

3. Almost every student knows the importance of pronunciation. Good pronunciation can make you sound good and confident, which can leave a very good and strong impact on the examiner as well as on other people. However, bad pronunciation can make things worse as well. Bad pronunciation can make you sound under-confident and can leave a bad impact. It is for that reason, pronunciation is crucial in the speaking section of the IELTS.

Using the above tricks and tips, you can improve your score in the speaking section that can lead you to get the best study abroad programs and can even make you eligible for the scholarship for abroad study for Indian students.

IELTS Syllabus

IELTS Syllabus: This IELTS Syllabus is divided into four sections. These sections are as follows: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. The skills identified are tested for a person. To attempt each section of the IELTS is what the IELTS test-takers do. That being said, it is the cumulative scores in each part of the IELTS which proves how high or low the band score would be of the individual. Next is the duration of the test. IELTS lasts approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. Below is a very general description of each part: Listening: The IELTS listening test is designed to test the student’s ability to listen to different types of spoken English. This consists of conversations between two or more individuals, monologues by one person, and lectures about academic issues. These audios are listened only once, and a lot of concentration and high comprehension skills are involved in order to pass it. Immediately after listening to the audio, a number of questions will be asked of the test taker, where he or she will be asked to explain what has been read through various kinds of questions which are multiple-choice short-answer and completion. Reading :The IELTS reading test measures an individual’s ability to read in English. This section demands that test-takers read set texts and respond in relation to those. The texts usually provided are scholarly and are taken from journals, magazines, newspapers, and books. The issues dealt with are at par with those relevant to the undergraduate or postgraduate programs. The test-taker is going to face 40 questions to test their mastering of the gist of a subject, recognition of details, subordinate arguments analysis, and drawing conclusions from the texts. Writing: This section consists of two separate writing tasks, each testing the candidate’s abilities in different aspects of written English usage. Writing Task 1 requires the candidate to analyze and report on visual information clearly and accurately. This graphical data may be a graph, chart, diagram or tabular data. The question may require summarizing the information, outlining the main characteristics, or explaining the trends and relationships presented in the graphs or charts. IELTS Writing Task 2 is essay writing, where the student is given an issue or topic which asks for more analytical response in the form of argumentation or opinion personally. This section evaluates the candidate’s skill to write a clear, presentable thesis statement, how to structure well-coherent supporting arguments, as well as timely and appropriate usage of vocabulary and grammar. Speaking: In this section, candidates are required to speak on the impromptu topics that will be given to them. It is an interview section wherein candidates sit for face-to-face interviews wherein they are asked to formulate intelligible and coherent responses on the spot. The IELTS speaking section measures the fluency of an individual, range of vocabulary, grammatical correctness, pronunciation of a candidate, and their ability to effectively communicate in spoken English.
